Thrifty 50's Fix

I admire the fashion of the 50's and being able to alter my attire from head to toe as those in the likes of Lucy Ricardo in "I Love Lucy", Bettie Page, Dita Von Teese, and my favorite cartoon doll, Betty Boop.

I have never stuck to the mainstream sense of fashion as I don't like blending in the crowd in terms of appearance and always had a penchant for the unconventional sort of style.

Being that I'm finally beginning to execute the look I've always desired to have, the first thing I searched for was blatantly red lipstick and polish. Just when I thought NYX was the most affordable cosmetic brand I could get with good quality, I came across NYC.

During a trip to a nearby CVS, I bought 2 items for $2.00!
Behold, my "Bettie Must-Haves"

This lippie is amazing! It's the perfect shade of red for my skin tone.

Not only is this the shade of red I was looking for,
it dries in a short span of time!

In my photos, I only showcased the lipstick and nail polish as I didn't want to overshadow them with any other form of make-up. I do have eyeliner on. My mother-in-law gave me a Maybelline eyeliner which to my surprise, worked really well. The smooth consistency and easy manipulation of the liner makes it something I would purchase with my own money.

I'm not a full blown Bettie dresser just yet. I intend to lose 20 pounds before I do so. I've been on the prowl for vintage clothing stores and I've found amazing ones in Hollywood and Van Nuys! I can't wait to shed the unwanted pounds and try on some new garb!

By the way, I saw these beauties in DSW and I wanted to buy them so badly but the $60 price tag made me rethink it a thousand times over since I know that it's not something I'll wear often.
Any thoughts?

I fell in love with jazzy wing tip shoes
These with a loose chiffon top and cropped black pants
*day dreams*

This is why I have to get in shape! Being a curvy woman, the outfits I like are tailored for skinny women.
It just looks odd on me. Curses! :s

I also received a sample size of Nexxus hair care products and John Freida goodies.

I will be doing a review of a really nice facial mask I came across a few months ago and I can't wait to share it with you all! I'm trying my best to pick up on my regular blogging pace. Be patient with me!

I got this pot from Albertsons. It's technically not for free since it's $10.00 per sticker and I needed about 80 stickers to receive this pot in addition to paying a penny for it.

It comes to show that the best things in life are free. :)

What's the best thing you've received?

I Have Officially Moved!

It has been a while since I last posted something on here. Like many of those who have moved, my place remained a pigsty for a handful of days. Rummaging through boxes for clothes to wear became a daily routine until the hubsters and I got tired of bumping into the scattered boxes. Now that we're settled, our quaint home needs furniture so I'm on the hunt for a suitable dining table for our place and more storage for our coats.

I found an inspirational piece that I now hang above my oven. I believe it's a saying that us women should live by. Being an avid admirer of the 50's, I knew I had to have it.

"I can only please one person per day. Today, I choose me."
The oil dispenser only cost me $0.99 at the 99 Cent Store!
The salt and pepper shakers were $1.30 from Ralphs!

As much as I'd like to be frugal, I don't purchase all my groceries at the 99 Cent Store. I only get toilet paper, kitchen towels, freezer bags, aluminum foil, paper plates, plastic cups and oil dispensers from there. Food, detergent and other items, I go to Ralphs, Alberstons or Fresh&Easy. Whenever my husband wants seafood, we go to a nearby Filipino store. It's either Arko or Seafood City for us.

This is a table that I fell in love with at Living Spaces and just HAD to buy!

"Love Kong Kumain" basically translates as "I love to eat".
This was a gift from my eldest sister. Cute, huh?

Do you guys have any move-in stories to share? I'll be sharing a review with you this weekend so watch out for that! I'll catch up with you all soon, I promise! Thanks to the loyal followers!
