Thrifty 50's Fix

I admire the fashion of the 50's and being able to alter my attire from head to toe as those in the likes of Lucy Ricardo in "I Love Lucy", Bettie Page, Dita Von Teese, and my favorite cartoon doll, Betty Boop.

I have never stuck to the mainstream sense of fashion as I don't like blending in the crowd in terms of appearance and always had a penchant for the unconventional sort of style.

Being that I'm finally beginning to execute the look I've always desired to have, the first thing I searched for was blatantly red lipstick and polish. Just when I thought NYX was the most affordable cosmetic brand I could get with good quality, I came across NYC.

During a trip to a nearby CVS, I bought 2 items for $2.00!

Behold, my "Bettie Must-Haves"

This lippie is amazing! It's the perfect shade of red for my skin tone.

Not only is this the shade of red I was looking for, 

it dries in a short span of time!

In my photos, I only showcased the lipstick and nail polish as I didn't want to overshadow them with any other form of make-up. I do have eyeliner on. My mother-in-law gave me a Maybelline eyeliner which to my surprise, worked really well. The smooth consistency and easy manipulation of the liner makes it something I would purchase with my own money.

I'm not a full blown Bettie dresser just yet. I intend to lose 20 pounds before I do so. I've been on the prowl for vintage clothing stores and I've found amazing ones in Hollywood and Van Nuys! I can't wait to shed the unwanted pounds and try on some new garb!

By the way, I saw these beauties in DSW and I wanted to buy them so badly but the $60 price tag made me rethink it a thousand times over since I know that it's not something I'll wear often.

Zombie Makeup Tutorial

Things you'll need: 

Elmer's Glue-All  Multi-Purpose Glue

Toilet paper

lotion / petroleum jelly

lip gloss

lip stick

red fabric marker

eyeliner

makeup brush

zipper

How to do it:

1. Make a palette by mixing lipstick colors of your choice with either lotion or petroleum jelly.

Cut off a measly amount off the tip of the lipstick and blend it with the lotion or petroleum jelly.

Keep adjusting the mixture once you get the color you desire.

Do the same with the eyeliner.

Squeeze some lip gloss on the palette for a gooey scab effect.

(I used Victoria's Secret, Beauty Rush)

2. Once your palette is ready, apply an ample amount glue on the areas of your face which you want to cover up then scrunch up some toilet paper for texture and layer more glue on it if the toilet paper is protruding.

3. Allow the toilet paper to dry on your face. This will take 20-30 minutes. Once it hardens, use a red fabric marker to line your scab with it. I do this only to get a rich red color. Slightly color the scab with the marker. You don't need to color the whole scab. Just highlight a few areas on them.

4. With a makeup brush, dab the mixture of lotion and lipstick on the scab. Fill out the areas and apply the colors on several areas of the scab.

5. When you're done coloring, get the zipper and use the adhesive to stick it on the chosen area of your face. You can opt to leave the zipper closed but I chose to unzip it and fold one side. Add pressure to the zipper until it finally dries up and stays in place.

6. When all the work is done, apply dark eye makeup  to match your look and zipper.

7. Removal is easy. Peel off the scab and apply a makeup remover or astringent/toner depending on your skin type. Wash your face and get rid of the residue because wearing this for hours can cause itching.

ta-daaa!

Out of curiosity, I tested the product on my eyelid and there wasn't much of a difference.

I like how the brush is easy to manipulate and that the cream eyeliner applies so smoothly.

The double-ended applicator makes the products easy to use.

Big Fatty Colored Mascara -Flipside

To break away from black mascara, I purchased a bright teal color.

I had to repeatedly apply the mascara for the color to cling on my eyelashes.

It claims to volumize lashes in which this product didn't deliver. 

I do enjoy the color as it's a refreshing alternative to black and that it wasn't clumpy at all.

Asphyxia and Yeyo 

Eyeshadow looks before and after eyeshadow application.

No mascara or liner.

A combination of Asphyxia and Yeyo,

I used the eyeshadow I applied on my hand.

Asphyxia

Me: Amor, do you see the difference?

*He peers at me*

Jordan: Uhm... It's shiny?

Adds a tinge of color.

It looks heavily pigmented but this is a very light eyeshadow.

I believe it's best to blend with a darker pink shade to achieve the desired effect.

Yeyo

Brings shimmer to your eyes.

This would make a great top coat for any look that needs a wash of color.

Since I didn't want to waste the loose pigment shadows, I used one of my own brushes from my modest brush kit.

It was a gift from my oldest sister after a trip to Hong Kong.
